UPL: BUL return to winning ways with win over UPDF

2025/26 Uganda Premier League | MD 15 | Friday January 30

  • UPDF FC 0-1 Bul FC

BUL FC bounced back on Friday evening with a hard-earned 1–0 victory over UPDF FC at the Bombo Military Grounds, steadying their Uganda Premier League campaign after the recent loss to Lugazi.

Needing a response after a 2–1 Matchday 14 defeat, BUL found it through Abdulkarim Ndugwa, the scorer of their consolation goal in that game.

UPDF started brightly, winning an early corner and applying pressure as BUL struggled to settle.

Despite the hosts’ urgency, both defences held firm. The first booking arrived in the 19th minute when UPDF’s Bernad Muwanga was cautioned, setting the tone for a combative encounter.

BUL gradually grew into the match and weathered the early storm. A timely clearance from defender Mwere kept UPDF at bay before the breakthrough came in the 35th minute.

Denis Sewagudde’s well-weighted pass found Ndugwa, who calmly slotted home to give the visitors a 1–0 lead.

BUL focused on protecting their advantage before the break, though Tah Barni Kelvin picked up a yellow card in added time. They still went into halftime narrowly ahead.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with UPDF pushing for an equaliser while BUL relied on structure and timely substitutions.

BUL introduced Ngobi and Mpasa midway through the half, while UPDF brought on Mugisa, but clear opportunities remained limited.

Tempers rose late on, bringing more cautions for Steven Kawuka, Alex Kitata and Frank Gladison Mugisa as frustration grew for the hosts.

BUL, however, stayed organised and managed the closing minutes well to secure all three points.

Tah Barni Kelvin’s energetic display earned him the Man of the Match award despite his booking.

The win lifts BUL to eighth on 19 points, restoring confidence as the season continues. UPDF remain in the relegation zone with 11 points and mounting pressure to improve.

Elsewhere, Vipers SC produced a four-goal performance against Buhimba, while KCCA FC will host Entebbe UPPC at the Phillip Omondi Stadium to round off the day’s fixtures.
