2025/26 Uganda Premier League

  • Express 0-3 Vipers

Vipers SC put on a commanding show at the Hamz Stadium on Wednesday night, cruising past Express FC 3–0 to climb to fourth in the Uganda Premier League.

Under the bright floodlights, the Venoms were calm, efficient, and ruthless, turning every Express mistake into an opportunity.

Express started brightly. In the seventh minute, Richard Basangwa earned a free-kick at the edge of the box, and Mikidadi Ssenyonga forced Alfred Mudekereza into tipping the ball over.

But as Express pushed forward, they left spaces behind, spaces Vipers were happy to exploit.

Yunus Ssentamu was the first to test Ali Mwirusi with two long range efforts. Arafat Usama also grew into the game, firing one shot that Mwirusi pushed for a corner and curling another just over.

Vipers struck in the 37th minute. A poor clearance from Ramz Kawooya fell to Enock Ssebagala, who drilled a low shot into the net to give the visitors the lead.

Express nearly hit back just before halftime during a crowded goalmouth scramble that even shook the crossbar, but Vipers held on.

Jimmy Kintu’s men came out stronger after the break, boosted by the introductions of Ismael Ali and Elvis Ssekajugo.

For a brief spell, Express controlled the tempo, with Ssekajugo injecting life into the midfield. But once Vipers settled, they took over again.

Their second goal arrived in the 65th minute. Usama picked up the ball in midfield, sliced through Express pressure, and slipped it to Allan Okello, who finished confidently.

Just three minutes later, substitute Isaac Ogwang made it 3–0, calmly slotting in after a sharp pass from Okello.

From then on, Vipers managed the game with maturity. Ssebagala threatened from distance, and Okello nearly created a fourth before making way for Pedro Sukuya.

Ssebagala was also substituted for Moses Waiswa as Vipers closed out the match. The final whistle confirmed it, Express 0–3 Vipers.

Goals from Ssebagala, Okello, and Ogwang lifted Vipers to 12 points and fourth place. Express, stuck on nine points, drop to 10th and face growing pressure to steady their campaign.

Vipers now shift focus to a big showdown with SC Villa on Saturday, November 29, at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende. Express stay at the Hamz Stadium for a crucial clash with Calvary FC.
