2025/26 Uganda Premier League | MD 14 | Tuesday January 27

  • Entebbe UPPC FC 0-0 Maroons FC

Entebbe UPPC were forced to settle for a point after a tense, evenly matched goalless draw with Maroons on match day 14 of the Uganda Premier League at the Fisheries Training Institute playground in Bugonga.

Both sides created chances but lacked the finishing touch on an afternoon officiated by FIFA referee Diana Murungi.

UPPC started brightly and nearly struck inside two minutes when Muhammad Kyeyune’s close-range effort was blocked before Ambrose Kigozi’s cut-back flashed across goal.

Steven Munguchi tried his luck from distance soon after but fired over as the hosts kept the pressure on.

Maroons struggled to settle early and conceded a free kick on 15 minutes, but Issa Bugembe wasted the opportunity by shooting over.

The visitors gradually grew into the game. Nkuubi tested UPPC with a well-hit free kick, while Emmanuel Obua’s dangerous cross caused panic in the home defence.

Kyeyune went close again late in the half, while a Maroons full-back blazed over just before the break.

Maroons returned with more intent after halftime, forcing Boris Onegi into a timely clearance from Nkuubi’s cross. UPPC responded through Munguchi, who struck the side netting from a tight angle.

Looking for a breakthrough, UPPC made four changes on the hour, introducing Noordin Bunjo, Julius Poloto, Fazil Tumwine and Issa Mubiru. The substitutes added urgency.

Kigozi narrowly missed Mubiru’s delivery, Poloto saw a header saved, then squandered a clear chance after Tumwine’s cut-back.

The best chance of the match, however, fell to Maroons. Obua unleashed a thunderous 35-yard strike that beat everyone but rattled the post, leaving both sides frustrated.

Late substitutions followed for Maroons, and goalkeeper Hassan Matovu Muyomba was booked for time-wasting in stoppage time. His earlier saves had already stood out, earning him man of the match.

The draw keeps UPPC in the title picture. They sit on 27 points after 14 matches, level with Police. Maroons remain eighth with 17 points.

Next up, Maroons host Mbarara City on January 31, while UPPC travel to Lugogo to face KCCA, knowing sharper finishing could make the difference.

Elsewhere, NEC FC edged Buhimba United Saints 1-0 in Hoima, Calvary and URA shared the spoils in Midigo, Lugazi beat BUL 2–1 in Najjembe, and KCCA FC swept past UPDF FC 4–0 at Lugogo.
