  • Police 2-1 Maroons

Police FC got back to winning ways on Wednesday, edging Maroons FC 2-1 in a tense forces derby at the Kira Road Police Arena.

After going two games without a win, losing to SC Villa and drawing with NEC, the Cops found their rhythm again thanks to Congolese forward Bedia Djuma Ikamba, whose brace secured their second victory of the season.

Ikamba opened the scoring in the 17th minute, heading in a fine free kick from Denis Kalanzi, continuing their growing on field chemistry.

He doubled the lead just before halftime, pouncing on a goalkeeping error from Hassan Matovu, who misjudged a long ball from Richard Matovu.

Maroons responded three minutes later through Rogers Kiwanuka, but despite their second-half push, Police’s backline held firm to protect the lead.

Head coach Matia Lule made three changes from the side that lost to Villa, handing Tonny Kiwalazi his season debut at right back and recalling Mario Swize and Remsey Jjemba.

The adjustments gave the team greater balance and energy throughout the match.

Ikamba’s brace takes his tally to four goals in five games, putting him top of the league’s scoring chart and establishing him as the Cops’ go to man in attack.

The win lifts Police FC to fourth place on eight points, level with BUL FC and KCCA FC, while Maroons remain ninth with four points.
