- Police 1-0 UPDF
A late Umar Kasumba penalty proved decisive as Police FC edged UPDF FC 1-0 in a tightly contested Forces Derby at the Kavumba Recreation Ground on Wednesday, marking a memorable farewell to their home turf in their final home fixture of the Uganda Premier League season.
In a match that saw both teams squander several opportunities, it was Kasumba who rose to the occasion in the 82nd minute, calmly converting from the spot after being brought down in the box.
The goal not only secured three crucial points but also snapped a three-game losing streak for Police FC.
The first half saw Police dominate proceedings, with Kasumba nearly putting his side ahead early on.
The forward’s fifth-minute header from an Allan Bukenya cross rattled the woodwork, and moments later he forced a fine save from UPDF’s goalkeeper Wasswa Yusuf following a corner, only for Reagan Male’s rebound to be cleared off the line.
Police continued their offensive push into the second half, with Wasswa again denying Herman Wasswa to keep UPDF in the game. But the pressure eventually told when Kasumba earned and converted a penalty, sending the home fans into celebration.
The win lifts Police FC to 11th on the league table with 33 points, while UPDF FC stay 10th on 39 points, their two-match winning streak brought to an end in their final away game of the season.
As the Uganda Premier League campaign draws to a close on May 24th, Police FC will travel to face Wakiso Giants at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, while UPDF FC will return home to host BUL FC at the Bombo Military Barracks Ground.
