2025/26 Uganda Premier League | MD 17 | Wednesday February 18,

  • KCCA FC 2-1 BUL FC

The final whistle at the Philip Omondi Stadium on Wednesday night was met with more relief than celebration.

KCCA had been desperate for a win, and the hard fought 2-1 victory over BUL finally gave their supporters something to breathe about.

The Kasasiro Boys started with purpose. In the ninth minute, Ashraf Mugume rose highest but headed over.

Karim Ndugwa followed with a chance on the half hour mark, meeting Hilary Onek’s cross but sending his effort off target.

The breakthrough came a minute later. Ivan Ahimbisibwe timed his run perfectly to head home Saidi Mayanja’s cross after neat build-up play from Bwambale Lazaro. The stadium erupted as KCCA took a deserved lead.

BUL responded and nearly punished a lapse in the 37th minute, but Herbert Achai produced a crucial block.

Still, the visitors found their equaliser before halftime, sending the teams into the break level at 1-1 and shifting the mood inside the stadium.

KCCA restored control almost immediately after the restart. Three minutes into the second half, Achai turned scorer, finishing from Mugume’s assist to make it 2-1. It proved the decisive moment.

The rest of the game was tense and scrappy. Filbert Obenchan and Martin Aprem were booked as both sides made changes.

Achai later went off injured, with James Mubezi coming on, while BUL pushed for another equaliser.

KCCA nearly sealed it in the 76th minute when Lazaro’s shot struck the post, with goalkeeper Tom Ikara getting a faint touch. Late bookings and four minutes of added time kept nerves on edge, but KCCA held firm.

Ahimbisibwe, whose opener set the tone, was named Man of the Match.

The win lifts KCCA to fourth on 33 points, while BUL remain eighth on 20.

Next, KCCA travel to Royal Park in Butema to face Kitara on March 2. BUL visit Police at Kira Arena a day later.

Elsewhere, Calvary and Express drew goalless in Midigo, and Lugazi edged UPDF 1-0 in Najjembe.
