2025/26 Uganda Premier League | MD 16 | Friday February 13,
- NEC FC 3-1 KCCA FC
KCCA FC’s worrying run continued on Friday night as they lost 3-1 to former coach Badru Kaddu’s NEC FC at the Phillip Omondi Stadium.
What started as a season of promise is quickly fading for co-coaches Brian Ssenyondo and Jackson Magera.
The 13-time champions have now won just once in their last five league matches, and this defeat exposed their growing inconsistency.
KCCA began brightly and controlled the opening minutes. They kept the ball well and looked comfortable, but their early dominance produced little.
In the seventh minute, Joel Sserunjogi missed a clear chance with the goal at his mercy, a moment that would prove costly. By the 20th minute, it remained their only real opportunity.
NEC struck first in the 22nd minute. Debutant Richard Basangwa found space and finished confidently to put the hosts ahead and lift the Lugogo crowd.
KCCA tried to respond but lacked sharpness in the final third. Frustration began to show, and NEC carried a 1-0 lead into the break.
KCCA came out with urgency after halftime and introduced Gatbel Yian for Hassan Muhamud in search of energy.
The change paid off quickly. Ivan Ahimbisibwe equalised, finishing from Umar Lutalo’s assist to make it 1-1 and briefly revive the visitors.
The momentum, however, did not last. In the 70th minute, Joseph Seremba curled home a fine strike to restore NEC’s lead.
Three minutes later, Basangwa completed his brace, finishing off Kagawa Ssenoga’s assist to make it 3-1 and effectively end the contest.
NEC managed the closing stages calmly, limiting KCCA to half-chances and seeing out the game with discipline.
The result lifts NEC to seventh on 23 points. KCCA remain fifth on 30 points, level with Entebbe UPPC, who have a game in hand, as do SC Villa.
It was a satisfying win for Kaddu against his former club and revenge for NEC, who had lost the first leg 2-1 earlier in the season.
Next, NEC visit Vipers SC on February 17, while KCCA host BUL FC as they look to steady their campaign.
Elsewhere, BUL drew 1-1 with Vipers in Njeru, and UPDF played out a goalless draw with Buhimba United Saints in Bombo.
