  • Maroons FC 0-0 KCCA FC

KCCA FC’s struggles in the Uganda Premier League continued on Wednesday as they were held to a goalless draw by a resilient Maroons FC at Luzira Prison Grounds.

Reeling from a 2-0 loss to Police FC last week, the Kasasiro Boys dominated early but could not find a breakthrough, dropping two more crucial points.

Kickoff was delayed for several minutes due to the late arrival of an ambulance. Once underway, KCCA looked sharper, pressing Maroons and creating chances from set pieces, with Shafik Nana Kwikiriza at the heart of their attacks.

Their best early opportunity came from a free kick on the edge of the box, but Maroons goalkeeper Hassan Muyomba Matovu stood tall, setting the tone for an inspired performance.

Despite sustained pressure, KCCA struggled to convert, as Raymond Walugembe and the Maroons defense held firm.

Maroons grew into the game before halftime, forcing KCCA keeper Charles Lukwago into several key saves. Both sides went into the break scoreless, leaving KCCA to rue missed chances.

KCCA coach made early halftime changes, introducing Brian Jjara and Derrick Nsibambi, followed by further substitutions later.

But despite fresh legs, clear-cut chances remained rare. Maroons threatened on the counter, and KCCA had to survive a late scare.

The match ended 0-0, with Matovu earning Man of the Match for his commanding performance.

The draw leaves KCCA third on 27 points, level with Police FC, who beat Calvary 2-0, while Vipers SC are yet to play. Maroons remain seventh with 16 points, a solid result against a league heavyweight.

KCCA will host UPDF FC at Phillip Omondi Stadium on January 27, while Maroons travel to Entebbe to face UPPC FC the same day.

Elsewhere, Police FC defeated Calvary 2-0 through goals from Brian James Obedi and Umar Kasumba, while Ambrose Kigozi’s strike earned Entebbe UPPC a narrow 1-0 win over UPDF FC at Bombo Military Grounds.
