Uganda Premier League

  • Vipers Vs KCCA – 8 pm

Uganda Premier League leaders KCCA FC face their biggest test of the season this Friday when they visit defending champions Vipers SC at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, a clash that promises fireworks.

The Kasasiro Boys arrive unbeaten in five games, topping the table with 11 points after a thrilling 4–2 win over Calvary FC at Lugogo.

Co-coach Jackson Magera, in charge for his third straight match as Brian Ssenyondo leads the Uganda U17 team in Qatar, believes his side is ready for the challenge.

“We have to believe we can get a result at Kitende,” Magera said.

“We’ve prepared well tactically and mentally; now it’s about taking our chances.”

The Venoms, meanwhile, are looking to find their rhythm after a slow start. They have played just one league game, a narrow 1–0 win over Entebbe UPPC, due to earlier continental commitments. Head coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert admits his side must lift their level.

“We didn’t start perfectly at Bugonga, but we got the job done,” Minnaert said.

“Now we’re home, and the boys are motivated to make a statement.”

Kitende has long been a fortress for Vipers, unbeaten at home in the league since a 1–0 loss to KCCA in March 2024, a run of 14 wins and five draws.

But KCCA also travel well, unbeaten away from home since April 2025.

The game carries emotional weight, with several players facing their former clubs.

Arafat Usama, once a KCCA fan favorite, now leads Vipers’ attack alongside former Kasasiro teammates Allan Okello and Moses Waiswa.

On the flip side, Ashraf Mugume, Mutwalibu Mugolofa, and Gavin Kizito all have roots at St. Mary’s SS.

KCCA welcome back Derrick Nsibambi and James Mubezi, but remain without Etienne Katenga, Joao Gabriel, and Rogers Mugisha through injury.

For Vipers, Okello could make his first appearance of the season, while Ashraf Mandela and Nicholas Wadada are battling for a start at right-back.

With KCCA chasing consistency and Vipers eager to climb the table, Friday night’s clash could shape the early title race.

As Magera summed it up:

“It’s a big fixture, they want points, and so do we. It will be decided by who wants it more.”
