Andrew Samson Kigozi scored twice as UPDF beat Mbarara City 3-1 at Bombo Military Grounds, ending a 12-match winless run and climbing out of the relegation zone.
UPDF had not won since December 5 against Lugazi, a run of seven losses and five draws that left them in trouble. But on Thursday, they showed urgency and control.
Emmanuel Ocen gave the hosts the lead after 30 minutes. Mbarara City responded quickly, with Muhammad Kanyike equalising five minutes later to level the game before the break.
UPDF returned stronger in the second half. Kigozi restored their lead in the 57th minute, finishing calmly to swing the momentum back to the hosts. He later added a second to seal the win and cap a dominant display after halftime.
The result lifts UPDF to 13th on 17 points, two above the drop. Mbarara City drop below them, now a place and a point behind.
UPDF next host Express FC on April 15, while Mbarara City face Police FC the following day. NEC FC will also take on URA FC later at Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo at 8 pm.
