2025/26 Uganda Premier League | MD 16 | Thursday February 12,

  • Maroons FC 0-1 Kitara FC

Kitara FC strengthened their title credentials with a hard fought 1-0 win over Maroons at the Prison Grounds in Luzira, completing a season double and ending the hosts’ long unbeaten home run.

John Byaruhanga was the difference. His 36th-minute strike settled a tense contest and handed the Royals maximum points for the second time against Maroons this season, following their earlier victory in Butema.

The defeat was Maroons’ first at home since April 2025, bringing an end to a run that had turned Luzira into a fortress.

Kitara, boosted by news before kickoff that they had been awarded three points from their abandoned fixture against Vipers, played with confidence and composure.

The game started cautiously, with midfield battles outweighing clear chances. When the breakthrough came, it carried controversy.

Byaruhanga struck in a crowded goalmouth, and despite protests from goalkeeper Norman Odipio, the officials ruled that the ball had crossed the line.

Maroons tried to respond but lacked precision in the final third. After the break, Kitara dropped into a disciplined shape, absorbing pressure and protecting their lead. The hosts pushed forward, yet struggled to create clear openings.

A late introduction of Ivan Asaba added urgency, but time ran out before Maroons could find an equaliser.

The win lifts Kitara to second place with 32 points, keeping them firmly in the title race. Maroons remain on 18 points after 16 matches.

Kitara next host URA FC on February 19 at Royal Park, while Maroons travel to face SC Villa at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.

Elsewhere, 10-man Police edged Lugazi 2-1 and Clinton Kamugisha scored as Mbarara City beat Calvary 1-0.
