Uganda Premier League | Thursday – Matchday 21

  • Police 0-1 Kitara

On a chilly Thursday evening at Kavumba Recreation Ground, Kitara FC finally got their revenge against a stubborn Police FC, securing a crucial 1-0 victory in a tense Uganda Premier League encounter.

With the sun setting early behind gloomy skies, it was Jude Ssemugabi who shone the brightest, scoring the decisive goal that handed Kitara all three points.

Fresh from national team duty with the Uganda Cranes, the towering forward made his mark in the 54th minute, expertly heading home a pinpoint free kick from substitute Solomon Okwalinga.

Okwalinga, who had just replaced David Ndihabwe two minutes earlier, wasted no time in making an impact, delivering a well-placed ball that Ssemugabi met with precision, sending it past Police goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga.

For Kitara, this victory was more than just three points, it was redemption. Having previously struggled against Police, they arrived at Kavumba with a clear mission to right past wrongs. The hard-fought win also saw them return to winning ways in the league after a tough run of form.

The result lifts Kitara to 4th place on the log with 32 points from 21 games keeping their top-four ambitions alive. Meanwhile, Police FC remain in 12th place with 23 points, still hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Police FC will be back in action next Thursday in the Kavumba derby against Soltilo Bright Stars, while Kitara will shift focus to a highly anticipated clash against KCCA FC in Hoima.

Meanwhile, the day’s late kickoff will see NEC FC host Express FC in Lugogo at 7 PM.
