  • Kitara FC 4-0 Buhimba United Saints FC

Kitara outclassed Buhimba United Saints 4-0 on Friday evening to claim bragging rights in the Bunyoro derby and make history in the first ever league match played at Hoima City Stadium.

Excitement had been building across the Bunyoro region all week, and fans turned up in big numbers to witness the historic occasion. The new stadium on the outskirts of Hoima City was packed as two regional rivals faced off.

But what many expected to be a tight contest quickly turned one-sided.

Kitara needed only four minutes to break through. George Ssenkaaba reacted fastest inside the box, poking home from close range after Buhimba failed to clear a free kick.

Nine minutes later, the striker struck again. Buhimba goalkeeper Jamil Kiyemba failed to deal with a corner and Ssenkaaba pounced to double the lead.

Buhimba coach responded in the 23rd minute, replacing Kiyemba with Ronald Mutebi. The change did little to stop Kitara’s dominance.

Living Kabon, back at the club on loan from URA, made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute when his curling free kick beat Mutebi.

The forward grabbed his second five minutes before halftime to cap a ruthless first-half performance.

Rain fell in the second half, but Kitara stayed in control and comfortably saw out the game despite some improvement from Buhimba.

The victory moves Kitara to within one point of leaders Vipers, who have 47 points and face Calvary on Saturday. Buhimba remain 13th with 15 points.

The league now pauses for the Uganda Cup. Kitara will host Bunyaruguru United at Royals Park in Butema before returning to league action away to Vipers in Kitende on April 10.

Buhimba United Saints will visit Calvary in Midigo on Saturday April 11.
