Maroons FC picked up their first win of the Uganda Premier League season with a gritty 2–1 victory over UPDF FC in the armed forces derby on Wednesday at the Bombo Barracks Military Grounds.

After a narrow 1–0 loss to BUL FC in their opener, the Prison Warders bounced back in style with first-half goals from Dickson Niwamanya and Ivan Mayanja.

Niwamanya opened the scoring in the 14th minute, heading in Emmanuel Obua’s corner, before Mayanja doubled the lead ten minutes later with a sharp finish from Rogers Kiwanuka’s cross.

UPDF, who had started brightly through Samuel Kayongo Ssekamatte and Andrew Samson Kigozi, pulled one back in the 53rd minute when substitute Joseph Jjanjali set up Faridi Rashid for a simple tap-in.

Despite late pressure from the hosts, Maroons held firm to claim all three points as the league resumed after the international break.

The win lifts Maroons to eighth place on three points, just ahead of UPDF, who sit ninth with the same tally after three games.
