2025/26 Uganda Premier League
- Maroons 1-0 SC Villa
SC Villa will remember Saturday in Luzira as a chance that slipped out of their hands. Victory would have lifted the record champions to the top of the Uganda Premier League, but instead they walked away frustrated after a narrow 1–0 loss to Maroons.
The damage was done almost immediately. Before fans could settle, Ivan Mayanja was at the end of a Baden Mujahid cross and poked home inside the opening seconds.
Maroons had their dream start, and from then on, they simply refused to let it go.
The game became tense and physical. The turning point came in the 39th minute when Maroons goalkeeper Simon Tamale and Villa defender Geoffrey Lubangakene were both sent off after a heated exchange.
Both sides had to reshuffle, but Maroons adjusted quicker, bringing on substitute goalkeeper Hassan Matovu, who finished with an assured clean sheet.
Villa pushed hard in the second half, but Maroons stayed organised, defended deep, and blocked every route back into the match.
By the final whistle, the Luzira side had climbed to eighth on 12 points after nine games, an encouraging boost for a team fighting for consistency.
For Villa, it’s a painful setback. They remain on 17 points, level with Vipers and KCCA, who both still have games in hand, making this loss sting even more.
