- NEC FC 1-0 UPDF FC
Ronald Media Innocent came off the bench and made the difference as NEC FC edged UPDF FC 1-0 on a tense Tuesday night at the Phillip Omondi Stadium.
It was a game of patience and small margins. The 8:00pm kickoff produced effort and intensity, but little goalmouth action early on.
UPDF, fighting to escape relegation trouble, stayed compact and disciplined. NEC enjoyed more of the ball but struggled to create clear chances.
Frank Gladison Mugisha tested NEC in the first half, while Ronald Kayondo fired off target as UPDF searched for a breakthrough.
At the other end, NEC could not find the final touch, and the sides went into the break locked at 0-0.
NEC returned with intent. Emmanuel Kulanga and Pius Obuya were introduced to inject energy, and just after the hour mark Ronald Media Innocent replaced Samuel Kayongo Ssekamatte, a change that would prove decisive.
UPDF goalkeeper Shamulan Kamya delivered a brave performance, earning Man of the Match honors. He dealt calmly with crosses, free kicks and second balls, even receiving treatment midway through the half before carrying on.
As the clock ticked down, NEC pushed harder. In the 80th minute, the breakthrough finally came. Media found space inside the area and finished calmly, sparking relief among the home fans.
UPDF threw on fresh legs and pressed in the four added minutes, but NEC held firm. Despite a physical contest filled with fouls, no bookings were issued.
At full time, NEC celebrated a hard-earned three points that keep them seventh on 27 points. UPDF remain 15th on 12 points, still staring at the threat of relegation.
Next, NEC travel to Najjembe to face Lugazi on Friday, March 6, while UPDF host Kitara in Bombo the same day.
