- SC Villa 1-0 KCCA FC
Hassan Mubiru came back to hurt his former club as SC Villa beat KCCA FC 1-0 in a tightly contested Kampala Derby at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba on Saturday night.
The forward scored the only goal in the 58th minute, finishing a neat move set up by Frank Ssebuufu to hand Villa the bragging rights.
Villa started brightly and should have led early on. Ssebuufu pounced on a poor pass from goalkeeper Mugolofa, but his effort was cleared off the line. Mubiru then came close from a free kick that went just wide.
The hosts looked sharper in the opening minutes, forcing KCCA into a few rushed challenges, with Gavin Kizito booked for a foul on Mubiru.
KCCA, however, grew into the game as the first half went on. Shafik Nana tested David Lukwago with a strong effort, and Herbert Achai’s long-range shot created a rebound chance, but Ahimbisibwe fired wide.
The first half ended goalless, with both sides having their moments.
Villa came out stronger after the break. Ssebuufu remained lively and soon played a key role, setting up Mubiru, who calmly finished to break the deadlock.
KCCA pushed for a response and made several changes, but they lacked a cutting edge. Nana continued to deliver dangerous balls, yet Ahimbisibwe’s header went over, reflecting a frustrating night in front of goal.
Villa stayed organized and managed the game well in the closing stages, making changes to protect their lead. Even with late pressure, KCCA could not find a way through.
Villa held on to claim all three points and move to 44, level with KCCA in third place.
Next, Villa host Vipers at Kadiba, while KCCA return home to face Kitara.
