- Vipers SC 1-0 Calvary FC
Gusto Mulongo struck late to hand Vipers SC a hard fought 1–0 victory over Calvary FC in an Uganda Premier League match played under the floodlights at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Saturday.
Mulongo scored in the 86th minute to secure three points for the hosts and keep their four-point lead at the top of the table.
Vipers controlled the game from the start but struggled to find the net. Calvary goalkeeper Hadji Shukuru kept his side in the contest with fine saves to deny Beyuku Munsi and Rogers Torach, while Dasylva hit the post as the hosts pushed for the opener.
The breakthrough finally came when substitute Yunus Ssentamu made a run into the box and set up Mulongo, who calmly finished to spark celebrations among the home fans.
Calvary, despite sitting bottom of the table, fought hard and looked confident after holding Vipers to a goalless draw in the first round in Midigo.
The win restores Vipers’ four-point cushion ahead of Kitara FC in second place. Calvary remain bottom with five points and face an uphill battle to avoid relegation.
Vipers now turn their focus to the Uganda Cup, where they will host Iganga United on Wednesday.
However in the UPL, Vipers will host Kitara FC next on Friday April while Calvary FC welcome Buhimba United Saints the next day.
Elsewhere, Express FC ended a seven-match winless run with a 3–1 victory over URA FC at Nakivubo Stadium.
Earlier KCCA defeated Lugazi FC 3-0 in Najjembe, SC Villa beat Entebbe UPPC 2-0 in Entebbe, while Maroons FC and UPDF FC drew 0-0.
