2025/26 Uganda Premier League | MD 15 | Saturday January 31

  • NEC FC 0-0 Express FC

NEC FC and Express FC shared the spoils after a cautious, goalless draw in the midst of the  countable Lugogo crowd on Saturday evening, a match defined more by organization than attacking flair.

Everything was in place before kickoff, inspections done, ambulance on standby and warm ups completed

Yet once Badru Kaddu’s NEC got the game going, it was clear both sides were more focused on avoiding mistakes than forcing the issue.

The first half was evenly balanced but short on excitement. Neither team created a clear chance in the opening 20 minutes as the midfields cancelled each other out.

NEC, coming off a 3–3 home draw with Kitara and an away win over Buhimba United Saints, stayed compact.

Express, fresh from a 1–0 loss at Kitara, were equally cautious, determined not to leave Lugogo empty-handed.

That pattern carried through to the break, with solid defending on both sides keeping the score at 0–0 and leaving fans hoping for more urgency after halftime.

Express showed greater intent in the second half and came closest to scoring just before the hour mark, when Henry Wamala missed an open chance. They continued to push around the 65th minute, but NEC’s defence stood firm.

Substitutions followed as both coaches searched for a breakthrough. Express brought on Ssenyonga Mikidadi for Glory, while NEC made a double change, introducing Paul Mucurezi and Allan Mugulu in place of Marvin Kavuma and Roland Innocent. Still, clear chances were hard to come by.

Even with four minutes of added time, neither side found a winner, and the match ended as it began, goalless.

The result leaves NEC seventh at the end of the first round with 20 points while Express sit 10th on 16 points, a useful away result after their previous defeat.

Elsewhere, it was a day of draws, with Maroons and Mbarara City sharing a 1–1 result and URA playing out a goalless stalemate with Police, while Kitara edged Calvary 1–0 in Midigo.
