Police FC finally had something to celebrate on Thursday, beating Express FC 2-1 to claim their first win of the season at the new Kiira Road Police Arena in Kamwokya.

The Cops had drawn 1-1 with Mbarara City in their debut at the ground last week, but this time Matia Lule’s side showed grit and smart adjustments to deliver their first victory of the campaign.

Lule made two key changes, starting Lawrence Tezikya and Umar Kasumba ahead of Denis Kalanzi and Charles Bbale.

The move paid off in the 28th minute when Kasumba, hungry to impress, tucked in a cross from Swize Mario for the opener.

Express struck back just before halftime. Richard Bassangwa was fouled in the box, and Ssenoga Kagawa converted the penalty to level the score.

The game’s turning point came in the second half when Congolese forward Bedia Ikamba, making his debut off the bench, curled in a fine finish in the 76th minute after being set up by Tezikya.

Police held firm from there, denying Express any way back and sealing a win that lifted them to joint top of the table on four points, alongside BUL FC.

Express, meanwhile, suffered their first loss and sit sixth with three points from two matches.
