- Police FC 2-0 Calvary FC
Police FC moved to the top of the Uganda Premier League table on Wednesday, beating Calvary FC 2-0 at the Police Arena in Kamwokya.
The victory marked their third consecutive win of the season and reinforced their growing momentum.
The first half was cagey, with both teams testing each other but failing to create clear chances.
Police began to assert themselves around the 20th minute, but Calvary’s defense and goalkeeper Hadji Shukuru kept the scoreline level.
Police goalkeeper Muwanga Mathias also made key saves, ensuring a goalless first half.
The breakthrough came in the 74th minute when Obedi Brian James finished a Richard Matovu assist to put the hosts ahead.
James was later substituted due to a head injury. Police sealed the win in the 89th minute as Umaru Kasumba, assisted by Saidi Kyeyune, doubled the lead, leaving Calvary little time to respond.
Obedi Brian James was named Man of the Match for his decisive contribution before his injury.
The win lifts Police FC to 27 points, sharing the top spot with Vipers SC, who are yet to play, and KCCA FC, who drew against Maroons FC earlier in the week.
Police will next travel to Kitende to face Vipers SC on 27 January, while Calvary host URA FC at the Mdigo P/S Grounds.
Elsewhere in the league, Ambrose Kigozi once again proved decisive for Entebbe UPPC, scoring the only goal as his side edged UPDF FC 1-0.
