Police FC emerged victorious in the Armed Forces derby on Thursday, defeating UPDF FC 2-1 in a dramatic clash at the Bombo Barracks Military Ground.

The Cops, impressive in their return to top-flight football, secured their third win of the season through goals from Deus Bukenya and substitute Derrick Maviiri.

Rashid Farid scored the hosts’ only goal as UPDF’s search for a first win of the season continues.

After a tense first half, Police took the lead midway through the second when Bukenya reacted quickest to a rebound after UPDF goalkeeper Abdu Kimera spilled Daniel Jakony’s header from an Emmanuel Mugume corner.

The drama escalated late on. With just two minutes left, Farid leveled for UPDF, sending the home fans into celebration.

But their joy was short-lived, Maviiri calmly rounded the goalkeeper moments later to restore Police’s lead.

UPDF came close to rescuing a point in stoppage time, but Ronald Kayondo’s header struck the crossbar, sealing a hard-fought win for the Cops.

The result lifts Police FC to joint top of the Uganda Premier League table on 11 points alongside KCCA FC, who visit Vipers SC on Friday. UPDF remain third from bottom with just three points.
