Maroons FC will host Mbarara City in Luzira in the final game of the first round of the Uganda Premier League.
The Prison Warders want to return to winning ways and finish the round in a better position on the table.
Maroons have had mixed results in their last five matches. They lost 2–0 away to Kitara, then bounced back with a big 4–0 win over Express at home in Luzira.
After that, they lost 1–0 to Buhimba United and played two goalless draws against KCCA FC and UPPC. These results have seen the Maroons drop to 9th place with 17 points.
Mbarara City’s recent form has also been poor. They drew 1–1 with Calvary, beat URA 1–0, lost 2–0 to Vipers, drew 0–0 with Lugazi, and were heavily beaten 6–1 by SC Villa at Kadiba. The Ankole Lions are still stuck in the relegation zone and need points badly.
Speaking ahead of the match, Maroons Head Coach Abdallah Loi said the team spirit is high and the players are motivated to get a positive result.
He explained that recent poor performances stemmed from player inconsistency due to injuries and other internal challenges.
History also favors Maroons. In the last five meetings between the two sides, Mbarara City have never beaten Maroons.
Maroons won four times and drew once, scoring eight goals, while Mbarara City managed only one goal in those games.
However, the Maroons will miss some key players. Brian Nkuubi and Raymond Walugembe are suspended after collecting too many yellow cards. Derrick Basoga is also ruled out after suffering a fractured arm on the palm.
