2025/26 Uganda Premier League | MD 16 | Fixture
- Mbarara City FC Vs Calvary FC – 4 PM | Rwamwanja Stadium
As the second round of the Uganda Premier League begins, attention turns to the bottom of the table and one pressing question, will Calvary finally win a game?
The league resumes with a crucial clash in Mbarara, where 14th placed Mbarara City host bottom side Calvary.
Both teams need points, but the spotlight is firmly on Calvary. They are still without a win this season, eight points behind Mbarara City, and running out of time to turn things around.
For Mbarara City, this match carries weight. The Ankole Lions sit on 12 points and know victory would ease their relegation worries.
Their first round was turbulent, with four senior players suspended over disciplinary issues. Still, there were positives.
They earned a result away to Maroons and booked a place in the Uganda Cup Round of 32, restoring some belief in the squad.
Calvary’s struggles have been deeper. Their Uganda Cup exit to non league side Football Classroom raised more doubts about their form and confidence.
Although they drew 1-1 with Mbarara City earlier in the season, they head into this encounter under pressure. The longer they go without a win, the heavier the burden becomes.
However one fact remains Calvary FC are the first team to end the Uganda Premier League first round without any win since the 2016/17 season.
In 2016, JMC Hippos and Kirinya JSS had 0 wins in the first round of the season, JMC were eventually relegated while Kirinya JSS turned things around.
Therefore for Calvary, this could be a turning point, a chance to revive their campaign. Another loss, however, would leave them staring at relegation.
Elsewhere, Police host Lugazi at the Police Arena in Kamwokya, while Kitara travel to Luzira to face Maroons.
