The Uganda Premier League returns on Thursday November 20, with three key fixtures, Kitara’s push to end BUL’s unbeaten run, Jimmy Kintu Mwera’s first test as Express head coach, and SC Villa’s bid for a fourth straight win.

Fixtures

  • Kitara vs BUL – Royal Park Butema – 4pm
  • Lugazi vs Express – Lugazi stadium, Najjembe – 4pm
  • SC Villa vs NEC – FUFA Kadiba Stadium – 8pm
  • Kitara seek response as BUL defend unbeaten run

Kitara host BUL at Royal Park, Butema aiming to bounce back from their narrow 1-0 loss to SC Villa before the international break.

Wasswa Bbosa’s side wants an immediate response, while also trying to hand BUL their first league defeat of 2025.

The history books tell a different story. Kitara have never beaten BUL in the league, with their only win coming in last season’s Uganda Cup. In six league meetings, BUL have four wins and two draws.

BUL coach Abbey Kikomeko Bogere returns to Butema for the first time since his long ban following touchline clashes during that Cup defeat.

His team is 4th with 10 points from six games, while Kitara sit 10th with seven points from five.

  • Kintu begins Express Era with tough Lugazi test

At Najjembe, new Express coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera starts his tenure with a tricky trip to Lugazi.

The former Calvary coach, still searching for his first topflight win, replaces Badru Kaddu and hopes to spark a turnaround.

But Express face a bogey team. Lugazi beat them home and away last season. Both sides, though, arrive full of confidence, Lugazi after a 5-2 rout of Buhimba United Saints, and Express after a commanding 4-1 win over Mbarara City.

The teams are level on eight points from six matches. Express sit 7th, Lugazi 9th. A win for either could propel them into the top four.

  • Villa’s title charge tested under Kadiba Floodlights

Under the Kadiba floodlights, SC Villa take on NEC in a matchup that could underline their title ambitions.

The record champions are on a three-game winning run and are 3rd with 10 points from six matches.

Villa will be without Reagan Mpande, away on international duty, giving Frank Ssebuufu, scorer of the winner against Kitara,a chance to lead the line. Andrew Otim and Charles Lwanga also offer attacking options.

NEC, still settling under new coach Badru Kaddu, are seeking their first win under his guidance.

They may welcome back striker Innocent Media but will miss defender Jacob Okao for the rest of the season.

NEC won both league meetings last season, though Villa claimed the Fufa Super 8 title in August.
