  • SC Villa 6-1 Mbarara FC

SC Villa left no room for doubt as they stormed to a crushing 6–1 win over Mbarara City in an Uganda Premier League duel at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba on Wednesday.

Eager to respond after their last outing, the Jogoos set the pace early.

Just six minutes in, Frank Ssebuufu climbed highest to nod home Najib Yiga’s teasing corner and ignite what became a long, painful afternoon for the visitors.

Five minutes later, Villa doubled their lead, Hassan Mubiru tapping into an empty net after Ssebuufu unselfishly squared following a clever run past the goalkeeper.

Villa played with freedom and confidence, pinning Mbarara City back. Mubiru narrowly missed with a long-range strike in the 20th minute, while Ronald Edwok’s effort at the other end briefly tested Villa, flashing just over the bar.

The game was effectively decided by the half-hour. Mubiru’s free kick crashed off the woodwork and Tonny Atukunda reacted fastest to tuck away the rebound for the third.

Five minutes later, Aslam Semakula calmly finished past the advancing goalkeeper to make it 4–0 before the break.

The second half followed the same script. Five minutes after the restart, Yiga capped a fine performance by finishing from close range after good work from Semakula.

Moments later, Mubiru punished a poor back pass from Reagan Matege to slot home Villa’s sixth in the 55th minute.

Mbarara City managed a late consolation in the 88th minute when Wycliff Ahumuza was fouled in the area, and Clinton Kamugisha calmly converted the penalty past David Lukwago.

The emphatic win lifts SC Villa to third on 29 points and reinforces their title ambitions. Mbarara City remain in trouble, sitting 15th with just 11 points from 14 matches.

Villa next host Lugazi on January 31, while Mbarara City travel to Maroons FC on the same day.
