SC Villa’s much-anticipated return to Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, ended in disappointment as they fell 2-0 to a well-drilled Maroons FC side in a Uganda Premier League clash on Sunday.

Excitement was high as Villa hosted their first match at Wankulukuku this year following stadium renovations.

However, their homecoming celebration was quickly derailed when Raymond Walugembe struck early in the 11th minute.

A misjudged intervention by goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige left the goal exposed, and Walugembe made no mistake, calmly slotting into an empty net to give Maroons the lead.

Despite dominating possession, SC Villa struggled to turn their control into meaningful chances.

Patrick Jonah Kakande was the brightest spark for the Jogoos, but his missed opportunity and later setup for Sula Matovu, whose shot was blocked, summed up Villa’s frustrations in the final third.

The hosts continued to push for an equalizer in the second half, with Elvis Ngonde, Reagan Mpande, and substitute Charles Lwanga all coming close. However, wasteful finishing and Maroons’ disciplined defending kept them at bay.

Villa’s night went from bad to worse in the dying minutes when Jackson Nunda set up Abel Eturude, who fired a well-placed shot from outside the box to seal a crucial win for the visitors.

With this result, Maroons climbed to eighth place with 27 points, while SC Villa dropped to ninth with 24 points, their struggles in the league persisting.
