The race to the Uganda Premier League title got another twist as leaders SC Villa dropped three points at Luzira to Maroons FC on Wednesday.
The Prison Warders sentenced Villa to an agonizing 1-0 defeat to dent the latter’s title chase a huge blow.
The Jogoo, now have three games to end the season but with 46 points accumulated, the title may fall through their hands.
Runners-up KCCA FC, who are on 45 points, have five games remaining, while third-placed Vipers SC, who have 42 points, are six games away from the closure of the campaign.
On the evening in Luzira, Villa were induced to the defeat by Ronald Orombi in the first half.
Despite attempts to turn the game around, Maroons held on, thanks to an outstanding Simon Tamale in between the posts.
Tamale saved twice from forward Umar Lutalo and Charles Bbaale in quick succession in the first half.
He yet again denied Bbaale in the second stanza, before brilliantly denying Ivan Sserubiri in the final stages of the match.
In their subsequent fixtures, Villa will be at home against Blacks Power FC while Maroons will visit Gaddafi FC on May 9.
