2025/26 Uganda Premier League | MD 17 | Thursday February 19,
- SC Villa 2-0 Maroons FC
Frank Ssebufu struck early and substitute Andrew Otim finished the job as SC Villa returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Maroons FC at FUFA Kadiba Stadium on Thursday.
Villa needed a response and they delivered. After a lively start that saw Najib Yiga booked for a foul on Rogers Kiwanuka and Maroons threaten from a corner, Villa took control in the 30th minute.
Ssebufu found the breakthrough, calmly applying the finishing touch to hand the Jogoos the lead.
Maroons refused to fold. They pushed forward and nearly drew level, but Nicholas Kigozi produced a crucial goal line clearance to protect Villa’s advantage.
The visitors enjoyed spells of possession, yet Villa’s defence stood firm to carry a 1-0 lead into the break.
The pattern continued after halftime. Ssebufu remained a threat despite being caught offside a few times and later booked for obstructing the goalkeeper.
Maroons kept searching for an equaliser, forcing goalkeeper Hassan Matovu into important saves. Norman Odipio came closest but dragged his effort wide.
Villa’s substitutions proved decisive. Andrew Otim replaced Ssebufu in the 84th minute and made an instant impact. Deep into stoppage time, Reagan Mpande delivered a precise cross into the box.
Otim rose highest and powered home a header in the 90+1st minute, sealing the win and sparking celebrations at Kadiba.
The result lifts SC Villa to fourth place on 34 points, keeping them within reach of the leaders. Maroons remain ninth on 18 points.
Earlier in the day, URA FC drew 1-1 with Kitara FC at Royal Park in Butema.
The league now pauses for Uganda Cup action. When play resumes, Villa visit Calvary FC in Yumbe on March 2, while Maroons travel to face Express FC on March 4.
