  • Police FC 0-1 NEC FC

Muhammad ‘Kagawa’ Ssenoga scored the only goal as NEC FC beat Police FC 1-0 on Friday evening at the Police Arena in Kiira, Kamwokya.

The visitors arrived with confidence after defeating SC Villa earlier in the week and carried that momentum into a tight Uganda Premier League contest.

The match began at a lively Kiira Road Grounds with music from Diamond Platnumz playing around the stadium as both teams finished their warm-ups.

Police looked steady early on, with defender Deus Bukenya making a crucial clearance in the fifth minute to ease pressure inside the box. Moments later, Samuel Ssekamate attempted an overhead kick, but the effort went wide.

NEC gradually found rhythm and started pushing forward. Samuel Kayongo came closest in the first half when his shot drifted past the far post in the 41st minute.

Police goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga then kept the hosts level just before halftime, producing a strong save from Emmanuel Kulanga in stoppage time.

After the break, NEC increased the pressure. Their breakthrough arrived in the 67th minute when Hakim Wandera delivered a free kick into the area and Ssenoga rose to head home.

Police responded with changes, bringing on Paul Tenny, Umar Kasumba and Charles Bbale as they searched for an equaliser, but NEC remained organised and protected their lead.

NEC also made late substitutions to slow the tempo, eventually seeing out the narrow victory.

Wandera, whose delivery created the decisive goal, was named man of the match.

The result moves NEC to seventh place with 34 points, just one behind sixth-placed Police on 35.

Next during Uganda Cup Round of 16, NEC will host Lugazi FC who eliminated the Cops before returning to league action against URA FC on April 9, while Police will face Express FC at Hamz Stadium on April 8.
