2025/26 Uganda Premier League | Saturday January 24 | MD13

  • Mbarara City FC 0-0 Lugazi FC

Mbarara City and Lugazi FC played out a goalless draw on Saturday at Rwamwanja Stadium, a result that did little to ease either side’s growing relegation fears.

The match was short on quality and clear chances, with both teams struggling to assert themselves.

The slow tempo and lack of creativity reflected their uneasy positions near the bottom of the table and despite a few hopeful moments, neither side showed the sharpness needed to take all three points.

For Lugazi, the draw extended a worrying slump.

The visitors were under new technical leadership following the appointment of Simon Peter Mugerwa to replace Steven Bogere, but the change brought no immediate lift.

Lugazi are now winless in seven matches, their last victory coming on November 8 against Buhimba United Saints.

Mbarara City’s situation is just as concerning. The Ankole Lions have only one win in their last six games, and while they were defensively organised on the day, their blunt attack once again let them down.

Both sides remain locked on 11 points. Lugazi sit 14th on the table, while Mbarara City stay second from bottom, with pressure mounting as the season moves on.

With time running out, matches like this are likely to be remembered as missed chances in a relegation fight that demands wins, not draws.

Elsewhere, NEC and Kitara shared an entertaining 3–3 draw at Lugogo, while Express beat Buhimba United Saints 3–1 at Hamz Stadium.
