2025/26 Uganda Premier League
- UPDF 2-0 Lugazi
UPDF returned to winning ways in the Uganda Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Lugazi at Bombo Military Grounds on Friday.
This was the Army side’s first win of the campaign and they started strongly, testing Lugazi goalkeeper Juma Mutebi, who denied Shafic Kakande in the sixth minute.
Emmanuel Ochen opened the scoring in the 15th minute, calmly slotting the ball into the net to give UPDF the lead.
UPDF kept the pressure on, and Joseph Janjali’s effort just before halftime was brilliantly saved by Mutebi. Janjali made amends early in the second half, doubling the lead in the 47th minute.
The match became tense in the 70th minute when Paul Wasswa was sent off for a second yellow card, reducing UPDF to ten men.
Despite this, Lugazi struggled to create clear chances, settling for a defensive approach in the closing stages.
The win moves UPDF to 12th place, level on nine points with Lugazi from nine matches, signaling a timely return to form for the Army side.
