Kitara FC stepped onto the Royal Park turf knowing a win would send them top, however they left frustrated.
URA FC fought to a 1-1 draw on Thursday evening, denying the Royals a chance to climb above Vipers SC.
Kitara stay second on 36 points, two behind the leaders, while URA take a valuable point in their battle near the bottom.
The hosts started brightly. Inside 12 minutes, George Ssenkaba finished calmly from Namasa Edward’s delivery to give Kitara the lead and ignite the Butema crowd. They pushed for a second, winning corners and controlling possession.
URA stayed composed. They earned their own set pieces and grew into the contest, showing the fight of a side unwilling to fold.
Kitara resumed the second half on the front foot but paid for missed chances. In the 66th minute, Norman Namanya struck the equaliser, swinging momentum URA’s way.
Moments later, Issa Lumu was sent off, reducing Kitara to ten men and setting up a tense finish. URA pressed for a winner, but the Royals held on.
At full time, it ended 1-1, a result that feels like a win for URA and two points dropped for Kitara.
URA move up to 13th on 15 points, above Buhimba United Saints. Kitara now turn attention to Entebbe UPPC on March 3, while URA face Mbarara City at Hamz Stadium.
Later at the FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, SC Villa will host Maroons FC at 8 pm.
