2025/26 Uganda Premier League

  • Vipers 2-1 Maroons

Usama Arafat Kiiza finally announced himself in Vipers SC colours, scoring his first goal for the champions as they edged Maroons FC 2–1 on Saturday to keep their perfect Uganda Premier League start alive.

The action unfolded almost immediately at St Mary’s Stadium. Just two minutes in, Vipers were ahead when Maroons defender Derick Basoga turned a Yunus Sentamu effort into his own net. It set the tone for a bright opening from the Venoms.

Six minutes later, the moment home fans had been waiting for arrived. Usama signed from KCCA FC in September, let fly from distance to double Vipers’ lead. The stadium erupted, and his teammates swarmed him in celebration.

Vipers kept pushing. Abdul Karim Watambala struck the post midway through the half, and substitute Allan Okello, on for the injured Mark Yallah, forced goalkeeper Simon Tamale into a sharp save moments after coming on.

But the comfort vanished after halftime. Maroons regrouped and pulled one back in the 58th minute through Raymond Walugembe, finishing off a well-worked move that cut through Vipers’ back line. The visitors suddenly grew in belief.

They chased an equaliser relentlessly. Jackson Nunda came closest, drilling into the side-netting after slipping into space in the box.

Vipers, once cruising, found themselves digging deep in the tense final minutes.

Yet the champions held firm. Their resilience delivered a third straight win, adding to victories over Entebbe UPPC and KCCA FC.

With nine points from three matches, Vipers now prepare for a short trip to Express FC on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
