Uganda Premier League
- Entebbe UPPC 0-1 Vipers
- Mbarara City 0-1 NEC
Defending champions Vipers SC began their Uganda Premier League title defence with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Entebbe UPPC at the Fisheries Ground, Bugonga, on Saturday.
After a tense first half, Karim Watambala struck in the 62nd minute, finishing off a clever pass from Yunus Sentamu.
The goal was enough for the Venoms, who were eager to make a statement after a delayed start to the season caused by a league boycott and international duty.
Entebbe pushed hard for an equaliser, with former Vipers striker Isa Bugembe coming close late on, only for goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza to pull off a superb save, earning him the Man of the Match award.
The victory lifts Vipers to 13th place, while Entebbe drop to eighth on seven points.
Vipers will next host KCCA FC in a highly anticipated clash at Kitende on Friday, while Entebbe UPPC travel to face Calvary FC.
In the day’s other fixture, NEC FC edged Mbarara City 1–0 in Kamwenge.
