2025/26 Uganda Premier League | Tuesday January 6 | MD 12

  • Vipers SC 2-0 Mbarara City FC
  • Buhimba United Saints FC 1-0 Maroons FC
  • Police FC 2-0 KCCA FC

Vipers SC moved top of the Uganda Premier League on Tuesday night with a calm 2–0 win over a stubborn Mbarara City side at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, making the most of slip ups elsewhere to strengthen their title push.

It was not an easy night for the Venoms, who had to be patient against well-organised visitors. But once they broke through, control followed.

The victory lifted Vipers to 27 points, one ahead of KCCA, who dropped to second after an earlier defeat, with the Kitende side still holding a game in hand.

Mbarara City started brightly, closing spaces in midfield and disrupting Vipers’ rhythm.

The hosts created chances but lacked early sharpness, with Milton Karisa heading wide when unmarked and Karim Watambala seeing a simple header claimed by goalkeeper Fahad Emuran.

As pressure grew, Vipers began to settle. Allan Okello and Karisa linked up well in attack, and Emuran was forced into a smart save to deny Karisa after a quick turn and low shot on the half-hour.

The deadlock was broken eight minutes before the break in controversial fashion. Karisa went down in the box under a challenge from Emuran, drawing angry protests from Mbarara City.

Referee Diana Murungi stood firm and awarded the penalty. Okello, fresh from Africa Cup of Nations duty with the Uganda Cranes, calmly rolled his spot-kick into the corner.

Vipers returned from the break with purpose and doubled their lead six minutes into the second half.

A rushed clearance from Hamza Mulambuzi fell to Watambala, who reacted fastest to slot into an empty net with Emuran out of position.

From there, Vipers were in control. Mbarara City made changes in search of a response, but the hosts managed the game well, slowing the tempo and limiting their visitors to half chances.

Late substitutions and added time brought no change to the scoreline.

The night was rounded off by favourable results elsewhere. KCCA were beaten 2–0 by Police FC at the Police Arena, while Buhimba United Saints ended an eight-game winless run with a narrow win over Maroons at Royal Park, Butema.
