2025/26 Uganda Premier League | MD 18 | Tuesday March 3,
- Vipers SC 3-0 Lugazi FC
Under the floodlights at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende, Vipers SC produced a calm and clinical display to beat Lugazi FC 3-0 on Tuesday night and return to the top of the Uganda Premier League table.
For a few hours, Kitara had climbed to the summit. By the end of the night in Kitende, Vipers had reclaimed it.
Lugazi kicked off, but Vipers quickly took control. Usama Arafat Kizza was lively from the start, swinging in two early crosses from set pieces.
Tadeo Lwanga headed the first wide before Watambala failed to hit the target with another. The warning signs were clear.
Chukwuma Odili began finding space, drifting across the front line and asking questions of the Lugazi defence.
Even when Tadeo was forced off injured in the 15th minute after a collision, the hosts did not lose momentum. Paul Patrick Mbowa stepped in seamlessly.
The breakthrough came in the 19th minute. Rogers Ochaki Torach tried his luck from distance and caught goalkeeper Muhammad Kakoza off guard, the ball flying into the net to give Vipers a deserved lead.
Vipers stayed on the front foot and doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark. Usama struck from range and the effort slipped past Kakoza, compounding a difficult evening for the young goalkeeper.
Lugazi were still reeling when Vipers struck again in first-half stoppage time. Odili shrugged off his marker and drilled home at the near post to make it 3-0 before the break. The contest was effectively settled.
The second half lacked the intensity of the first. Lugazi made several changes in search of a response, while Vipers managed the game with confidence and composure. Mbowa picked up a yellow card, but it did little to disturb the rhythm of the home side.
At full time, the 3-0 victory sent Vipers back to the top on 41 points, two ahead of Kitara. Lugazi remain 10th with 18 points.
Lugazi will host NEC on Friday, March 6, while Vipers travel to face Mbarara City the following day as the title race continues to gather pace.
League action continues on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, with URA taking on Mbarara City at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo (5pm) before Express face Maroons at the same venue at 8pm.
