- UPDF FC 1-2 Vipers SC
Vipers Sports Club needed a late intervention from Abdul Karim Watambala to beat UPDF FC 2–1 at the Bombo Barracks Military Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Watambala struck late to secure Vipers’ 14th win in 20 matches and extend their lead at the top of the table to four points ahead of Kitara FC.
Vipers started brightly. In the third minute, Chukwuma delivered a dangerous cross from the left, but defender Da Slyva cleared the danger.
UPDF responded with intent. Enrique Lubwama beat Enock Luyima but rushed his cross, while Emmanuel Ochen later sent a delivery that sailed beyond his intended target.
The visitors eventually took the lead through Arafat Usama Kiza, but UPDF refused to fold. With ten minutes left, Lubwama equalized to spark hopes of a result for the hosts.
Those hopes were short-lived. Watambala stepped up late on to restore Vipers’ lead and seal all three points.
The defeat leaves UPDF deep in trouble. It was their 13th loss of the season and they remain on 13 points as the relegation fight intensifies.
Next, UPDF visit Maroons FC in Luzira on Saturday, while Vipers host Calvary.
Elsewhere, URA FC face Lugazi FC at Hamz Stadium, while KCCA FC host Express FC in Lugogo.
