URA FC assistant coach Fred Muhumuza has urged the club’s fans to remain calm and support the team despite their goalless draw against UPDF in their opening game of the Uganda Premier League season.

The Tax Collectors, who signed more than ten players in the transfer window, are one of the sides that are expected to challenge for the title this season.

However, their draw against UPDF has created some doubts about their title credentials.

“The boys put up a good show and there is room for improvement,” Muhumuza said after the game. “We are here to compete in the league. We look forward to the Gaddafi game.”

Muhumuza also praised his players for showing character in a difficult game. “Bombo is not one of the easiest places to go to and pick maximum points,” he said.

“My players have shown character and that’s what we wanted.”

Muhumuza is currently in charge of the team on an interim basis following the passing of Sam Timbe. He is unsure whether he will be appointed permanently or if the club will take a different path.

Reports indicate that the club has been in negotiations with different coaches to join them, and former Cranes player David Obua has been linked to the job.

URA will return to action on Friday when they take on Gaddafi at Mehta Sports Stadium, Lugazi. Last season, they had a good record in Lugazi, collecting many points in the second round, including a 2-0 win over KCCA FC.

The Tax Collectors, who last won the league in 2011, are optimistic that they can challenge for the title this season with the likes of defending champions Vipers, KCCA, and SC Villa.
