URA FC interim coach Fred Muhumuza was left to rue missed opportunities after his side drew 1-1 with Maroons in the Uganda Premier League on Friday in Luzira.

The tax collectors thought they had secured three points after Emmanuel Oketch found the back of the net in the 85th minute, but Darius Ojok leveled matters for Maroons inside the added four minutes.

Muhumuza believes his players played well but late lapses in defense cost them the victory.

“It was very unfortunate for the boys since they worked hard, and at the same time, we thought we had picked three points on the road,” Muhumuza said.

“The boys are playing well, the only worry is not keeping a clean sheet. We had lapses in the last minutes, but we are improving game per game.”

“Luzira is not the easiest place to visit, and we shall build on the positives and improve on the negatives.”

Muhumuza also hailed Oketch for his tremendous progress in the team.

“I’m happy for Oketch, he has been training well, and he is taking his chances,” Muhumuza said.

“Everyone in the team will get time to play. I want to thank FUFA for introducing double licensing since it has improved our players.”

“We are a team in transition with good players, and they will bond and will be a better side.”

URA are now sixth with nine points from five games, having won two and drawn three.

Maroons, on the other hand, have now gone two games without a win and will have to address their backline, having conceded four goals in two games.

Assistant coach Simon Peter Ojok admits that the team needs to improve in this area.

“Indeed, we lost concentration and conceded late, but the response of the players was good to level matters late,” Ojok said.

“We shall try to see that we improve all the departments. But we were also playing a good side that challenged us. But we return to face a better side after rectifying our mistakes.”

Maroons will face table leaders Kitara away in the next game on Wednesday in Masindi, while URA will make a trip to FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru in Buikwe district to battle second-placed BUL.
