URA FC will will miss out on the prestigious 2024 Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar, scheduled for December 28th 2023 to January 13th 2024.
The Tax Collectors received an invitation to compete in the tournament from the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), but their participation hinged on approval from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).
Unfortunately, FUFA’s approval came with a condition: URA had to prioritize completing their remaining UPL fixtures in the first round.
With three crucial matches against Mbarara City FC (December 29th), KCCA FC (January 2nd), and SC Villa (January 7th), URA made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Mapinduzi Cup in order to focus on their league campaign.
The Tax Collectors were initially placed in Group A alongside Mlandege FC, Azam FC, and Chipukizi United, but their withdrawal saw South Sudan’s Jamus FC take their place.
In 2016, the Tax Collectors became the second Ugandan club to win the tournament after KCCA FC in 2014 when they beat Tanzania’s Mtibwa Sugar 3-1 in the final before losing in another final in 2018 to Azam FC 4-3 in penalties following a barren stalemate in normal time.
