URA FC coach David Obua celebrated his first victory since taking over the reigns, as his side edged out Express FC 2-1 in a thrilling StarTimes Uganda Premier League match.
The win marked a significant turnaround for URA, who had previously suffered a 2-0 defeat to Vipers and a 2-2 draw with Kitara under Obua’s leadership.
“This is what I have been emphasizing, we must win with style. And that’s exactly what the boys have delivered. They might have made mistakes like goalkeeper Denis Otim, but I understand that this style of play requires time to fully integrate into the team.”
“I’m proud of the team’s effort, especially Laban Tibita, who has been putting in the hard work,” Obua remarked.
Express took the lead early on through Isaac Wagoina after goalkeeper Otim attempted to play the ball from the back.
URA responded with a penalty converted by Moses Aliro in the 70th minute, setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion. Tibita scored a late winning goal for the Tax Collectors with a sweetly struck volley.

Obua expressed optimism for the future, viewing this victory as a stepping stone. “This is just the beginning. I’m confident that we have much more to offer.”
“These players have the ability to play captivating football, and they will continue to do so. My focus is not solely on results; I’m more concerned with instilling a consistent playing style. Our mentality will remain the same, regardless of the outcome,” he added.
The victory propelled URA to sixth position in the league standings with 13 points, one point ahead of eighth-placed Express. BUL FC maintains their dominance at the top with 24 points.
For Express, defensive lapses and an ineffective attacking force proved to be their undoing. Coach James Odoch acknowledged the shortcomings and pledged to address them.
“We shall work on our mistakes and bounce back a better side. There is a lot we need to work on,” noted Odoch
