URA show Isabirye exit door after difficult second spell

URA Football Club has parted ways with head coach Alex Isabirye, bringing an end to a turbulent second stint that never matched the expectations that greeted his return in May 2023.

Isabirye came in with strong credentials, fresh from a solid run at Express and known for building tough, competitive sides. But at URA, nothing quite clicked.

In 36 games, he produced 17 wins, nine draws, and 10 losses, a run that steadily chipped away at confidence inside the club.

Sunday’s 2–1 defeat to KCCA was the breaking point, made even harder to swallow after former URA striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe scored both goals. Hours later, the inevitable happened, Isabirye was dismissed.

URA didn’t stop there. In a clear sign of a full restart, the club also let go of the entire technical bench.

For Isabirye, it’s another chapter closed in a long coaching journey that has taken him across Ugandan football, BUL, Vipers, Express, Soana, Kyetume, Nyamityobora and even to Somalia with Horseed SC.

His résumé is decorated, but this second spell with URA never fully got off the ground.

He leaves URA sitting 11th in the Uganda Premier League with eight points from seven matches, a position far below what the club expects.
