Forward Joseph Ssemujju scored a hat-trick as URA FC thrashed Arua Hill 4-1 at Mehta Stadium on Sunday, ending a goal drought and propelling the Tax Collectors to seventh place in the Uganda Premier League.
Ssemujju expressed his relief after finally finding the back of the net. “I’m happy to score my first goals this season,” he stated. “We’ve worked hard for this win, especially after the loss to NEC. I’ll continue to work hard to score more goals.”
Arua Hill had taken a surprise lead through Safi Mansoor, but URA responded with goals from Ssemujju (3) and a spectacular strike from Ibrahim Dada.
Coach David Obua praised Ssemujju’s performance but called for more consistency. “Ssemujju has the strength and speed to score more,” he noted. “He needs to give us more and more.”
Obua also addressed defensive concerns. “We started poorly and need to stop conceding sloppy goals,” he said. “We need to keep the ball better and avoid conceding through turnovers.”
Despite the victory, Obua emphasized the need for improvement. “We have a lot of work to do,” he stressed. “We have conceded too many goals and need to improve defensively. When you look at our playing approach, when lose the ball you are going to concede,” he added.
Arua Hill assistant coach John Erebu acknowledged the team’s struggles. “We’re in a crisis, but we’re trying to improve,” he noted. “We’ll fight hard to avoid relegation.”
Elsewhere, BUL FC drew 1-1 with NEC FC, while Wakiso Giants defeated Busoga United 3-0.
Flying left back Rashid Okocha had given NEC the lead before substitute Samuel Ssekamatte equalised for BUL, while at At Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium, Kenneth Kimera notched a brace before Hassan Ssenyonjo added the other goal for Wakiso.
The league resumes on Monday with UPDF hosting Mbarara City.
