Opening grounding competition, the Uganda Squash Rackets Association got Makerere University Squash tournament as a new entrant on the calendar with inaugural edition climaxes.

Speaking at the awarding ceremony, which also had USRA General Secretary in attendance along with a big part of the Executive, President John Bosco Tamwesigire led the motion successfully.
Replying to the appeal made by Makerere University, he noted, “We welcome this tournament, it is the first of its kind. As per the request to adopt this independence tournament, I announce the acceptance of its inclusion on our USRA Calendar. The first edition has based a good mode for the tournament, which will be held annually.”
The tournament started on October 3 and climaxed on 9, having been played on a single round robin format in both men’s and women’s competition, compiling current students and alumnae.
Gladys Nakitende won the women’s trophy, collecting maximum 21 points out of the seven played, to beat Molly Mubeezi, who finished second with 18 points, losing only to Nakitende.
In the Men’s Category, Vianny Atwine also ran perfectly with a commanding 33 points, beating John Ayebale on 30 points from 11 games which were concluded at Makerere University Indoor facility inside the main campus on Thursday, October 9.
The event at the national level is joining the famous Uganda Squash Open and Kinyara Sugar Invitation tournament, World Squash Day tournament, which is up for Saturday, October 11, with USRA set to honor it in Jinja this year.
