The Uganda Squash Rackets Association (USRA) has named veteran coach Derrick Banyu to lead the Uganda squash team in preparation for the upcoming Africa Squash Seniors Championship. This strategic decision was announced by USRA President John Bosco Tamwesigire on Saturday, September 13, 2025, during the official launch of the championship project.
Uganda is set to host the prestigious Africa Squash Seniors Championship from November 17 to 20, 2025. With a goal of a victorious home campaign, the USRA leadership believes that Derrick Banyu is the right person for the job.
According to the USRA General Secretary, the choice was an easy one. โAlmost every squash player in Uganda started their career under the guidance of Coach Banyu,โ he stated, highlighting Banyu’s extensive experience and reputation as a foundational figure in Ugandan squash. Banyu has dedicated over 50 years to the sport, gaining experience at all levels of the game globally.
The Uganda squash team is expected to field 12 playersโsix men and six womenโto compete against more than 20 countries from across the African continent.
