Buddo Secondary School has commenced the rise as a sporting powerhouse school with a feat which ended St. Mary’s Boarding School Kitende’s seven-year dominance.

To stop the giants of the game, Buddo managed to win 29-27 after extra time in the final played at Tororo Girls School on Thursday, July 17, with the Nsangi Zone-based school scooping their first trophy in over 20 years.

This has been the third try for Buddo Secondary School, but they lost the previous two to Kitende in 2012 and in 2024.

Kitende walked into the final with a rich record of 9 Netball trophies out of the last 11 years at Nationals, and only two were due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Buddo Secondary School has become the first school to win the trophy before Kitende since 2013 when St. Julian Gayaza won. The other school to win Netball Nationals since the 2000s is Gombe SS, who has it once in last 20 years when it came in 2007.

Both champions, Buddo SS, St. Mary’s Boarding School Kitende, and Hamdsn Islamic Nakifuma, will represent Uganda at FEASSSA Games in Kakamega, Kenya, later next month.
