USSSA Boys Football: Madina Islamic secure maiden Nationals ticket

Madina Islamic SS fought from a goal down to beat London College Nansana on penalties 4-2 after a 1-1 draw at the end of normal time at Mwererwe Solid ground.

An own goal by Shakib Ssempijja in the 14th minute put London College Nansana in the lead. After missing a penalty in the first half, Michelle Kabika equalized with a free kick in the 52nd minute.

After 90 minutes of normal play, the game went straight into a penalty shootout, and the Nsangi-based school won 4-2, with goalkeeper Joseph Ssebunya playing a key role.

Ssebunya saved penalties from Hassan Ssaka and Abdul Rahman Alinda and converted the winning penalty to send Madina Islamic to Lira Town College for the USSSA Boys Football National Championship.

Ayiman Abasi, Abdul Ratif Eperu, and Nelson Kabereke scored the first three penalties, while Michael Raymond and Amaal Sakali scored for London College.

For this historical qualification, Madina Islamic led Group F, avenged their loss against St. James with a 2-0 victory, and lost 1-0 to Buddo SS before heading into the classification game to face London College Nansana.

In the other classification match, Greenlight Islamic Nansana returned to the nationals for the second time, securing their spot after beating Standard High Zana on penalties 5-3 after a 0-0 draw.
