On Monday, March 30th, Makindye Zone giant Kibuli SS continued their strong dominance of the zone, keeping the trophy since 2016 after beating rivals Kakungulu Memorial School.
Shafik Balikiwa headed in Isaac Kizza’s corner at the hour mark to decide the highly contested game played at Buziga Islamic main ground. The win helped Kibuli top the 6-team table with the maximum 15 points.
In the game, electric left-footed Twaha Kyeyune, strong defender Amiru Bakola, and captain Steven Kasangati were stand-out performers for Kibuli. In contrast, Captain Ronie Asiimwe led the challenge for Kakungulu.
Earlier in the qualifiers, played on a single round robin, Kibuli SS had already defeated Buziga Islamic, Goldstar High School 7-0, St. Peter’s Nsambya 2-0, and St. Mbuga 1-0.
With Kibuli SS reaching the Kampala Region as Makindye Champions, Buziga Islamic also qualified for the games, which shall be hosted in the Lubaga division, boosted by boardroom points awarded, the board docked points from Kakungulu’s tally to overturn them to Buziga.
Buziga finished the qualifiers in second place with 10 points, while Kakungulu Memorial also qualified as the third team with 9 points.
The three teams are joining teams from Kawempe, Nakawa, Central, and Lubaga zones to vie for four slots that will represent Kampala at the 2026 USSSA boys’ football championship in May at Lira Town College.
At the conclusion of the seven-day qualifiers that took place at different pitches, Kakungulu Memorial School’s skipper Ronnie Asiimwe was named the best player, Kibuli SS’s Paddy Ssagye was the best Goalkeeper, and teammate Reagan Nyanzi was the top scorer with 3 goals.
