Uganda Secondary School Sports Association has responded to the request of schools by extending the Elite Championship to between February 26 and March 1 from the dates scheduled for February 13-16.
The news was announced by USSSA Chief Executive Officer Christopher Mugisha Banage on January 21. “Elite games are a precursor activity to allow schools to try out their players before the championships begin,” Mugisha explained.
This follows the government’s order confirming that schools will start the academic year on February 10, although most schools were scheduled to start the first semester of 2024 in February.
The Elite tournament is organized by the top eight schools in sports, including Football, Basketball (5×5 and 3×3), Rugby 7s, Handball (boys and girls), and Netball (girls only), and participates in the Invitations.
The tournament will be held for the seventh time this year, and last year the Elite Championship was held at St. Joseph of Nazareth School in Mpigi in February. Buddo SS, Bukedea Comprehensive, Bombo Army, St. Noa Girls, Gombe SS, Busoga College Mwiri, and Nkoma SS dominated the events.
